Don't use Murphy's oil soap

Don't use any Swiffer products

Sweep with a soft bristle brush as needed

Use felt pads on your furniture

Place area rugs near all of your homes entries

Place area rugs near all water areas (sink, dishwasher, etc)

Water and white Vinegar works well placed inside a spray bottle (fill with 3/4 water and 1/4 white vinegar). After sweeping, spray your floor evenly, then mop with a dry or damp sponge (Sponges soaked with water will cause damage to your floor). Let air dry.

TIPS FOR HIRING THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR

Ask family and friends for recommendations

Ask for references

Always hire a licensed contractor

Check to see if the company has any complaints filed at consumer affairs

Check to see that the company is properly insured

Ask to see pictures of their previous work

Insist the contractors come to the site to quote prices and make sure all contractors are bidding on the same specifications.

Don't choose a contractor based solely on price -- remember the general rule, "You get what you pay for!" That said, don't assume that the least expensive contractor will be the worst and the most expensive the best.

It's best to select a contractor based on the combination of price, experience and your gut feeling. It's important that you are comfortable, especially if it's a lengthy project -- you'll be in each other's faces day in and day out!
